A client is a company or person you bill. You can hold five active clients at once and send them as many invoices as you like. Archiving a client frees the slot, so the limit is on how many you bill concurrently, not how many you have ever billed.
Any time, in either direction. Upgrades take effect immediately and are prorated against what you have already paid. Downgrades apply at the end of your current billing period so you keep what you paid for.
